2019 Partner Retreat

This year we had a group of 93 employment social enterprise leaders from 66 organizations representing 25 states across the country! Thank you for traveling to Boston to engage with us for two and a half days. With such a large and diverse group of colleagues, it was an amazing retreat!

Below you can find a selection of resources that were shared during the retreat.

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

THE CONSTANT LEARNER (led by Megan Christenson)
9:00–10:30am • Download Slides

With some help from neuroscience, this session enables leaders to re-frame to-do lists into to-learn lists. This shift softens the black and white nature of accomplishment and encourages a more collaborative and inclusive culture of progress and learning. Participants will create a to-learn list for the Retreat and commit to sharing out what they learned during the closing session.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

OWNING YOUR PERSONAL STORY (led by Megan Christenson)
11:45am–12:00pm • Download Slides

As social enterprise leaders, you are often responsible for the first impression of your venture. Marshall Ganz’s research on the most effective community organizers led him to create a personal story framework—the Public Narrative—that is both effective and authentic. We’ll build a prototype in this session for you to try on and refine through the rest of the Retreat.

LEVERAGING THE EVIDENCE OF OUR IMPACT
1:00–2:15pm • Download Slides and Additional Resources

This session will review recently-completed and in-progress evaluations that have implications for all employment social enterprises and will end with discussion of how the field should collaborate to ensure we are leveraging this growing evidence base.

SOLUTIONS SALON
4:30–6:00pm Download Slides

Participants will have a chance to bring a current challenge they are facing to an interactive discussion with industry peers. Through this structured format, peer groups will ask questions, engage in lively discussion and brainstorm solutions.
