UWBA Bay Area Census Count 2020 - How the Bay Area Will Get Counted

United Way Bay Area (UWBA) fights for financial stability and equal opportunity for residents in eight Bay Area counties. UWBA takes an innovative, holistic approach to ending the cycle of poverty through advocacy and programs that support all ages—providing free access to family support, financial and career coaching, job opportunities and basic needs. United Way Bay Area (UWBA) was selected through a competitive application process to serve as the “Administrative Community Based Organization” (ACBO) for the State of California’s Complete Count efforts. As the administrative backbone for regional census outreach, we serve as a funder, convener, coordinator, and technical assistance provider for organizations working to support a complete count.

Bay Area Counts 2020 is a regional census outreach initiative led by the United Way Bay Area (UWBA). Our vast network of nonprofit, business, and government partners is working to ensure every person in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Solano Counties is counted in the 2020 Census. The timeline of the 2020 census at-a-glance is provided below:

  • MARCH:  Households will receive a mailed invitation to respond to the census online. Some households will also receive a paper questionnaire.
  • MARCH – APRIL: Households can respond to the census online, by phone, by mail, or in person at a Questionnaire Assistance Center.
  • MAY – JULY: Households that have not yet completed the census will receive a visit from a U.S. Census Bureau worker who will collect their response in person.

UWBA has additionally prepared two webinars that go into detail on various ways to get involved and prepared for census 2020:

We have provided a presentation below that breaks down the 2020 census and what it means for the Bay Area community.
