Session Description
As employment social enterprises (ESEs) navigate their lifecycle, leaders face choices about how best to manage and evolve their financial infrastructure to support current and future operations.
REDF is excited to close Winter Continuing Education week with an old friend – Ethan Zatko, Director of Industry Specialty Services Nonprofit & Grantmaker Advisory at BDO – for a workshop focused on unpacking the choices related to updating and growing financial staffing, technology, and workflows in ways that are matched to your goals and your organization’s financial health.
Attendees will walk away with a greater understanding of:
- How to effectively staff the finance function, including: management roles and responsibilities, employee vs outsourced solutions, fractional support options like shared services and fiscal sponsorship, recognizing conditions for change, and pursuing increasingly equitable and competitive compensation.
- Making good use of financial management technology tools, for example: adapting QuickBooks for nonprofit operations and considering alternatives, expense management and bill pay for a paperless environment, and options for time substantiation and aligning allocations.
Audience: This session is designed for ESE CFOs, senior finance professionals, executive leaders, and finance team members.

About BDO
At BDO, we are providing middle market leaders with insight-driven perspectives and assurance, tax and advisory services, helping companies take business as usual to better than usual. To continue their critical work, nonprofits need to navigate challenges of their own: Budgetary constraints, complex federal funding, compliance, technology, donor stewardship and evolving constituent needs are only some of the hurdles they face. We tailor approaches to help organizations maintain a nonprofit heart and business mindset, so they can improve financial and operational health while expanding their impact.
