About This Resource

This session was part of the Fall 2023 Raising Capital & Increasing Revenue CE Week

REDF helped identify and unlock more than $160M in public funds for employment social enterprises (ESEs) in 2022. While this funding represents a significant opportunity to scale, it’s vital that all ESEs have access to information to understand how to find, pursue, and evaluate the risks of taking on a new government grant or contract.

In this session we will discuss the different types of government funding available to ESEs from federal, state, and local government agencies, and options for pursuing  these funding resources. We will also hear from a REDF Community ESE about their experience seeking and executing government contracts.

This session is designed for fundraising and development staff, program directors and managers, finance/compliance staff, and executive staff of nonprofit and for-profit ESEs.

After this session you will have:

  • A better understanding of the different types of government funding available to ESEs
  • Tactics for searching for relevant federal, state, and local government funding opportunities
  • Knowledge of the basic requirements of receiving government funding
  • Tools to evaluate whether or not to pursue a government funding opportunity
