Skill Up Los Angeles Overview

Skill Up Los Angeles (SULA) is a part of Los Angeles County’s CFET program, administered by the County’s Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). The Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) operates SULA as the intermediary, enabling contracted workforce partners to receive a 45% reimbursement on eligible employment and training costs incurred to serve CalFresh participants. SULA provides participants with education, work experience, training, and job search assistance opportunities, as well as case management and supportive services to assist with expenses related to finding and retaining work.

_____________

Services are delivered through community-based organizations that provide employment and training programs under contract with DEO. Skill Up Los Angeles currently partners with eight social enterprise providers that support CalFresh participants in building skills, gaining work experience, and securing competitive employment. Providers offer a range of services tailored to meet participants where they are, including paid work experience, industry-recognized credentials, and individualized career coaching. Programs address barriers to employment while strengthening pathways to long-term economic mobility.
